What is Hypnobirthing?

Psst.. It’s so much more than just breathing techniques.

Hypnobirthing is a full antenatal and birth preparation course for you and your birth partner. It is a modern take on an antenatal course with less nappy change practice and info on baby poo colours and more practical, scientific and life changing tools which can enable you to feel confident & in control for your birth. ⁣

Hypnobirthing has a shit name which doesn’t do it justice for how much it covers and how useful it is for birth. Let me tell you now there’s no hypnotising you with a swinging watch and making you think you’re a chicken! There is a common misconception that hypnobirthing is only for non medicated, vaginal births. This is simply not the case. ⁣

You can use hypnobirthing for every birth scenario whether that be a home birth or planned c-section. Hypnobirthing helps our brain reframe birth from being a painful and scary experience to a positive and empowering one. ⁣

⁣Hypnobirthing teaches you everything from the different stages of labour, the process of birth and the science behind it, your birth rights and how to stand up for what you want, birth positions, the role of the birth partner, the power of your hormones, pain relief options, breathing & relaxation techniques, the use of positive affirmations, induction, c-section, the fourth trimester and lots of other useful things that you would cover on a standard antenatal course. ⁣

Often antenatal courses can gear you up with the necessary birth information but not teach you how to put this into practice. Hypnobirthing will give you the skills to advocate for yourself and your baby.

Those practising hypnobirthing during pregnancy and birth means you have increased chances of:

  • A vaginal (physiological) birth

  • Fewer medical interventions

  • Less medical pain relief in labour

  • A calm and supportive environment for all types of birth

  • A supportive birth partner who has good knowledge of all stages of labour

  • Greater understanding of The Fourth Trimester to help you when baby is here

Still on the fence? Here is a research study on how Hypnobirthing had a positive effect on birth.
